9:15 am. Terry was on the trails at 6 am and has only the last section of the Red to finish. He’s been able to set a diagonal track. Should be fantastic conditions again today.
We didn’t lose any snow in the mild. The hard layer of freezing rain protected what we had. Yesterday the Pisten Bulley worked wonders turning the frozen surface into a sugary granular snow. The skating was incredible and even without the track the classic was very good. There was no ice on the groomed surfaces.
TCH caution required
Please be extremely cautious when entering and leaving the parking lot. Traffic moves fast, the TCH can be busy and so can our parking lot. A couple of recommendations from previous years: 1. Before turning off the TCH into the parking lot, make sure no one is coming up the entry way. Before turning off the highway, pull off onto the shoulder of the TCH and turn only after being sure no one is driving up the exit. Similarly, if you are about to exit, do not begin going up the hill if someone is on their way down the entryway. 2. When turning onto the TCH from the parking lot, some drivers ignore the traffic coming from Gander. Remember there is a passing zone and there could be a car in speeding towards you in your lane.
Junior Program Today 2 pm
Birch Branch Trail Packed
The Birch Branch Snowshoe Trail, which is largely south of the Transmission Line and for a short distance goes close to Gander Lake is well packed. The trail comes out on the Red Extension so the full circuit is a long hike requiring lots of time. It’s a beautiful trail. Load the attached map to your cell phone and allow plenty of extra time.
